Change Of Face

FACIALS have gone beyond the realm of the skin and now deal with inner-body beauty as well.

Heritage Healers beauty treatments are based on native Australian wildflower essences to treat and balance emotions.

The various preparations are used during a facial, and a few drops of the essence are placed under the tongue.

The idea is that the oils can help resolve negative emotions, thereby encouraging positive qualities to emerge.

While some may roll their eyes at the idea of inner harmony enhancing beauty, women do go to beauty salons for an emotional lift. There is nothing like a new hairstyle or a facial to lift the spirits.

The facial starts out with a questionnaire while your feet are soaking in water. The questionnaire helps the beautician work out what type of basic personality you are ? earth, water, fire or air.

Your personality is then matched with a special oil essence, which is used throughout the facial.

I was classed as Fire (outgoing, hard-working, dynamic and youthful in spirit, yet prone to burn out by taking on too much, and also quick-tempered) so Sonia Rowe, from Sonia's Beauty on King inside Peter Reynolds Hair Salon Newcastle, used Fire essences during my facial.

This oil is a blend of red beak orchid to help maintain drive and dynamism, balga to maintain a sensitive and balanced perspective to surroundings and pink trumpet, which is said to awaken the inner vision and desire for forward movement.

The facial started with a balancing cleanser, followed by an eyebrow wax and an essential peel. Sonia then placed several drops of Fire essence under my tongue.

Next was a wipe over with a refreshing lotion and then a facial massage, during which I had the overwhelming desire to roll over and fall asleep.

This was followed by a revitalising mask, where the urge to sleep nearly won.

Sonia assured me that many women fell asleep under her hands and she said it was quite a compliment when someone was so relaxed.

The mask contains ursinia, star of Bethlehem and white spider essence oils, as well as extract of aloe, thyme and hawthorne. It is left on for between 10 and 15 minutes.

After the mask, eye cream was dabbed around my eyes and the chakra nourishing cream applied to my face, neck and shoulders.

Next was a hand massage using the chakra body essence, after which my body was so relaxed it took me a full five minutes before I felt confident to stand up and walk around.

The facial took about 90 minutes and was priced at $42. The result was so good that on my way out I bought a small bottle of Fire essence so I could give myself the occasional boost between facials.
